The Ticker cocktail

The Ticker typeface was inspired by LED signage, so I looked for ingredients that approached the luminescent green and yellow we find in those devices. I mixed up an acid solution to add some citrusy tartness without clouding the drink; lime juice could subsitute as necessary. Though a cheaper, greener crème de menthe might boost the drink's saturation, I used Tempus Fugit crème de menthe, clear but excellent quality. Serving the drink on big, round ice nods to the circles that make up the font, and allows the sweet and sour intensity of the drink to mellow as it melts. In the end, the Ticker cocktail is a pale green/straw color, but I'd certainly describe the flavor as “bright.” The sweet and sharp sip evokes pineapple. Spearmint, over a background of other herbs and spices, arrives on the swallow. Mixologists might recognize in the recipe the template for the Last Word, and this drink shares with that twentieth-century classic a tasty accessibility.
